I crossed days 130 and 150 in May. One third of the year gone.
I also ran in my very first race. It was the Kicks For Kids River Run. It started in Newport KY, went across the river into Cincinnati, and back to Newport. To see 1200 people take off at once was pretty cool. Of course, I took off way to fast. I backed off though and found a little better pace. My goal was to finish it at 27 minutes or better. According to my watch, I did it in 26:55.
A friend dropped off his two girls at my house with my wife and ran with me. Thanks Mike!
By this point I had also lost 25'ish lbs and was feeling pretty good.
End of May 08 Review
Good news. I found someone to build my site for One Mile Per Day. It probably won't be up until late spring or early summer. I should probably talk to the school I want to approach and start lining things up for the 2009 - 2010 school year. I'm sure they'll have some input. I plan on starting this with either River Ridge Elementary in Villa Hills KY or Turkeyfoot Middle School in Edgewood KY.
I haven't mentioned this, but a neighbor of mine ran everyday with me last year. We hardly ever ran together but he kept his streak alive. He quit two days ago. He enjoyed it, but he has a pretty hectic schedule. He lasted 385 days. I wish he had kept running, but it's no big deal. It did a great deal of good for him. I think he'll stay active, just not in the form of a running streak.
I know a handfull of people have gotten out on the road after talking with me, but past my neighbor, I don't know of anyone who has started another streak I was contatcted by OrtingRunner who follows this blog. He said he was going to start a streak, but I never heard back from him if he actually started. Ortingrunner, I hope you got out and started!
Though most of January 09 has been bitterly cold, I've gotten some extra mileage in almost everyday. I'll probably do more than 2 times what I ran in December.
Goodbye for now.

Journal Review - April 08
Friday, April 4th was my 100th day. Haven’t felt strong lately, but I guess it will pass.
End of April 08 Review.
That was all I wrote for the month. So, what shall we discuss?
How about the weather here in Greater Cincinnati. My neighbor has a perfectly working treadmill and has offered it to me whenever I want to use it. Today when I went out it was 9 degrees F and the windchill was -5. Don't know why I did it, maybe I'm nuts. I know I looked like a fool. Any passer-by could only see my nose and mouth. I had running pants and sweat pants, long sleeve t-shirt, sweatshirt, running shell, hooded sweatshirt, running gloves, snow gloves, winter hat, and sun glasses. Sure, it took a few minutes to warm up, but once I did the pain from the cold disappeared. I even took the snow gloves and winter hat off. To be frank, it was great. It was sunny and the wind was still. There's just something about being out in the elements and overcoming them.
Ok, so I have an idea. I've had it for a while now. I want to use my streak to start an organization that raises money to buy running shoes and educate kids about getting out and getting active. Of course, there's a lot of fine-tuning that needs to be done. I can't afford to make it an official charity with a fed id. The price tag on that is about $5,000 in attorney fees. Anyone that wants to donate will just have to do so and trust me. I will have a completely open book of records. If someone decides to donate, they will be able to find out exactly where their money goes and confirm with the school/partner that the program is happening. They can attend any meeting or event with the kids. And while it doesn't have a fed id, I may even limit donations to $100 or so. Until it reaches $10k in a year, I don't even have to do a tax return (which by the way will cost about $2500). I've got plenty of time to let it gain momentum. Someone will eventually step up to the plate, whether it be an individual or business. I'll cross that bridge then. Hopefully, it will blossom into a significant organization. At least big enough that I can partner with multiple schools, get attention from local media, conduct a race every year, etc.
Uhhh...I think I'll call it One Mile Per Day...what do you think?

Journal Review - March 08
Interesting month. I didn't write much but it was significant. I had just opened a restaurant so I was putting in some hours and most nights didn't get out on the road until 10:00pm. Weather was very cold and we even had a 10 inch snowfall. Then shortly after, my daughter ened up with strep throat and I ended up with some form of it. I had a horrible cough and was really worn out for a few days. By the end of the month, I had almost reached day 100 and lost more than 12 lbs.
That's about it for March. I 've got a new site you may want to check out. I guess it's not new, but I just found it. It's www.ravenrun.net. It belongs to and is dedicated to Robert Kraft, who I've mentioned is the runner featured in the EPSN.com article that inspired me to start my streak. Interesting fact. He posts an open invitation for anyone to join him on his runs anytime. If you finish the run (8 miles and 1/3 mile swim) you earn a nickname from him and make it into his log/journal. He keeps track of everthing. Pretty cool, check it out. He's going to cross 100,000 miles in late March of this year. My money is that he'll keep running. Hopefully, I'll get down there someday and join him for a few days.

I'm in
Happy New Year.
I don't think I mentioned that I would be sending in my application to the USRSA after crossing over a year. I did the day after, and yesterday received my confirmation letter from the president, John Strumsky. Not real exciting, but when they update the site on March 1st, my name will be listed...at the bottom.
The group has gotten some recognition over the past year. If you go the site, http://www.runeveryday.com/, scroll towards the bottom. I believe there are a few links to the handful of stories written about different members. ABC news even did one about Mark Covert, who crossed 40 years this past July.
So did you resolve to get out there and exercise this year? Do it this year, actually follow through and do it. Do a streak if that's what it takes. It doesn't matter what kind of streak. Commit to stretch everday. Commit to walk 1 mile. Commit to do 10 push-ups. Just do something. Regardless of your schedule or situation, you have time to do something. You may not have an hour...but you have enough time to do 10 push-ups or stretch for 5 minutes.
That's about it for today. I'll be back soon to cover a couple more months from my journal.
